In this course, participants will learn effective sharpening techniques, understand the importance of maintaining sharp instruments, and explore the anatomy of a scaler. Additionally, the course will cover ergonomics and the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders, offering practical solutions for overcoming these challenges. The primary focus will be on techniques to restore and reinforce the cutting edge, along with proper instrument care to extend their lifespan. Just when you think you’ve mastered sharpening, this course will introduce helpful tips and tricks to make the process even simpler and more efficient.

Third Hour (10am-11am)
Women’s Health & Hormones for the Hygienist Focus
How dental hygiene work can impact the hygienist’s own hormonal balance, including stress, irregular schedules, and physical demands. Skill: Identifying risk factors, understanding hormonal influences on health, and implementing practical strategies to support balance and well-being.
Fourth Hour (11am-12pm)
Lesions in the Immunocompromised Focus
Oral manifestations of EBV (e.g., oral hairy leukoplakia), HPV, Kaposi’s sarcoma (HHV-8), and opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patients. Skill: Recognizing “non-ulcer” viral lesions and understanding their clinical significance.
