Contemporary Power Instrumentation for the Dental Professional

Contemporary Power Instrumentation for the Dental Professional

In many contemporary healthcare models, patient appointment times have been shortened but high-quality outcomes are still expected of providers. The practice of dentistry has become increasingly complicated by multiple patient factors such as polypharmacy, chronic medical conditions, and the expense of treatment. Less than 50% of adult Americans have dental benefits and the percentage of GDP (gross domestic product) dollars spent on oral health services has decreased to an all time low of 3%. To meet the demands of patient care in this contemporary health care model, dental hygienists must incorporate evidence-based contemporary debridement techniques into their practice.

When an RDH has access to a variety of power instrumentation (air polishers & ultrasonics), procedures are completed more efficiently and effectively, patient care outcomes and comfortability of debridement improve, and provider ergonomics is optimized with less strain and fatigue. Join us for this 4-hour course taught by the author of the international textbook Power Instrumentation for the Dental Professional and learn to diversity your power portfolio with air  polishing and ultrasonic technology that will teach you to practice dental hygiene smarter, not harder!

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, the oral health care provider will be able to:

  1. Understand the design differences in magnetostrictive and piezoelectric technology.
  2. Identify the non-surgical clinical applications of air polishing and ultrasonic technology.
  3. Incorporate a diversified insert/tip portfolio into clinical practice that improves debridement outcomes.
  4. Compare and contrast hand instrumentation to ultrasonic debridement and rotary handpiece polishing to air polishing.
  5. Select the most appropriate debridement methods that conserve tooth structure and improve the patient experience.
